Professor Kim’s Achievements
Some of Professor Kim’s remarkable achievements during his 2-year tenure as CTBUH Chair are shown below:
1. Spearheaded new outreach of the Council into Asia generally, and Korea specifically, to establish the CTBUH as a brand, in a region where it was previously under-represented.
2. Initiated a new Chapter of the CTBUH in Korea centered on a robust platform of regional activities (workshops, publications, etc).
3. Directly brought in new membership income, in the form of 6 new Supporting Contributor-level members, 4 Donor, 1 Contributor and 2 Participant-level members.
4. Introduced new Country Representatives to the Council, especially in Asian countries, and initiated a series of regional “Country Representative” meetings (including East Asia and the Middle East) to invigorate activity amongst our regional representatives.
5. Encouraged the formation of new working groups reporting on the topics: Design of Structural Outriggers; Foundation Design; and Wind Tunnel Testing.
6. Obtained significant research funding from the Korea-based Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology for a CTBUH research project investigating new technologies in tall buildings.
7. Translated, published and circulated a Korean version of the CTBUH Journal.
8. Initiated the creation of a new, peer-reviewed research-scholarly international journal on tall buildings.
9. Organized the CTBUH 2011 World Conference Seoul.
10. Co-chaired the CTBUH 2010 World Conference Mumbai and CTBUH 2010 8th Annual Awards Dinner & Symposium Chicago.
11. Initiated a new international student design competition.
12. Obtained funding support for the CTBUH-Illinois Institute of Technology Tall Building design studio, to enable 12 students to visit Seoul as part of their studies.
13. Started the creation of a new CTBUH-accredited post-professional Masters level course in Korea focused on tall buildings.
14. Undertook significant outreach to academic institutions to introduce more academic members and academic involvement with the Council.
15. Gave numerous presentations, press interviews and wrote articles for various prestigious publications to promote CTBUH around the world.
