Professor Sang Dae Kim becomes chairman

During the 8th annual Awards Dinner held on the first night of the 2009 Chicago Conference, David Scott passed on the chairman’s gavel to chair-elect Sang Dae Kim to become the 11th chairman of the CTBUH.
Both men had shared chairman duties during the conference such as the Leaders Meeting, the plaque ceremony on top of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, the 2009 Chicago Conference and the Awards Dinner.
David Scott will continue to serve on the board of trustees as the Vice Chairman and replace Ron Klemencic as the immediate past chair. During the conference, Professor Kim announced his plans to expand the Council’s presence and influence in Asia generally, and China, Japan and Korea specifically, and the potential for new regional chapters of the CTBUH around the world.

Sang Dae Kim is a professor at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at Korea University. He is also Steel Chair Professor at POSCO, which was founded to promote structural steel research in construction.
Kim was chairman of the International Symposium on Steel Structures which was held in Seoul in November, 2006. He is currently Managing Editor of International Journal of Steel Structures (IJOSS) and served as former Vice President of the Korean Society Of Steel Construction (KSSC) from 2001-2002. In June 2009, following a rigorous nomination and review process, the CTBUH announced Professor Kim as the next Chair of the Council.
Professor Kim visited the CTBUH offices in Chicago on August 27 and 28 for a meeting to discuss longer term plans for the Council.
